We are giving our Daughter Anh the name Honour and keeping her Vietnamese name as one of her middle names. We are using the British spelling of Honour (instead of Honor), because we think it seems a bit more feminine, and according to my British friends, that is the way it should be spelled anyway.
More importantly, we chose Honour because of the meaning of the word. Within some cultures, there is a huge emphasis placed on family honour. At times though, this can be taken to an extreme. The pressure to bring honour to your family (sometimes at all costs), can be incredibly intense at times. This pressure creates such a sense of duty and indebtedness that it can lead to situations that can either hurt the child or place her at great risk. We read a research paper a while back concerning child trafficking. The title of the research paper was called “At what price…Honour?” We were so broken after reading this research at how a beautiful value, taken to an extreme can become so twisted.
The dictionary defines Honour as; “That which rightfully attracts esteem, respect or consideration; possessing dignity, courage, high worth, virtue; Nobility of soul.” We are naming our daughter Honour so that she will always know that she already possesses dignity, courage, high worth and virtue simply because of who she already is. Esteem, respect and consideration are already hers. She is loved. Nobility of soul was hers by the time she took her first breath. She has been made in the image of God.

Beautiful. I love your new blog!
What a wonderful start. I so enjoyed learning more about your family and Love146.
So fun to meet your family and to learn about Honour's name. I love names that have special meanings. Our Vu (Luke) has a very special meaning too--The Bringer Of Light.
Blessings, Ann
Your family reminds me of a painting, painted by all of you. i penned this qoute while thinking of how great life is.
"It’s the true artist, fully engaged in his feelings, truthfully expressing his heart, that which is pure and vivid, who can affect others to contemplation and vision."
